NEW LESSONS: Teachers being familiarised with technology-assisted methods of teaching.

I am a lecturer of BBM and MBA in a private college. All of a sudden the college authorities have asked me to attend the orientation courses that are conducted by the Staff Colleges. I do not know what to do as I am not aware of the same.

Lecturers who have newly joined and those with a minimum number of four years' experience need to attend the orientation courses conducted by the UGC Academic Staff Colleges spread all over the country. The course lasts for a period of 28 days and inputs on Teaching Methodology, Curriculum Development, Student-Teacher Interaction, and Human Rights, to mention a few, are considered for study. You should immediately contact the Director, UGC Academic Staff College (ASC), Bangalore University, Central College, Bangalore and confirm the dates for the course.

If the college is not permitting you to attend the refresher course, you can even considering applying for the one-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Higher Education (PGDHE) offered by the Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU) (www.ignou.ac.in) which is considered as equivalent to two refresher courses for teachers of Education (B.Ed and M.Ed) and one orientation course for others. The courses conducted by the ASC do help the teacher in you to understand the nuances of higher education and unlearn/learn the art of teaching. The PGDHE which has a compulsory Extended Contact Programme (ECP) will help you to unearth your potential as a teacher.

I am interested in attending a management development programme in the domain of HR, Strategy Management and Manpower Planning from any Indian Institute of Management. Please provide the contact details.

I am in third year B.A. (HEP). After graduation, I want to pursue the three-year Law programme in good law schools such as NLSIU. Please tell me the difference between three-year and five-year law programmes.

After the Bar Council of India (BCI) (www.barcouncilofindia.nic.in) moved in to provide quality education on the legal front, many things have changed. The aim of BCI is to promote legal education and to lay down standards of such education in consultation with universities and State Bar Councils.

This has enabled quality in legal education, considering the fact that the number of law colleges offering three-year law courses is many. The BCI intervention has helped in bringing in the best of quality in both the three-year and five-year law programmes.

Students join the three-year law programme after completing the three-year degree course whereas they join the five-year programme after completing Plus Two. The five-year programme incorporates the integrated programme of degree and law. In the first two years you study general papers of graduation and later focus on law. At the end of five years, students get the degrees of B.A.-LL.B. (Honors). The five-year law course has age restrictions.

The following is the eligibility criteria for the five-year programme:

Passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an equivalent examination thereto, securing an aggregate not less than 50 per cent of the total marks in all the core subjects and English language put together ; and

Not completed 20 years of age as on July 1 of the year of admission. Provided in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST, the maximum age limit shall be 22 years as on July 1 of the year of admission.

I am a B.Com graduate interested in pursuing MBA from a good institute or university in Karnataka. I want to attempt the MAT. Please give me details.
