More often than not, students struggle to make up their mind about what they want to pursue after class 12. While many succumb to the highly underestimated parental, peer or societal pressure, others tend to misjudge and overlook the fine line between what seems achievable and what they think they want.
To test the unknown waters, students rely on the Internet, trusting well-wishers and even attend several career guidance workshops, in an attempt to find out what would suit them. Many even try their hand at answering aptitude tests, judge their own future based on the income their relatives draw from their jobs. How then, can one sanely, choose being unbiased and follow the heart when one only sees wide, enticing, un-trodden and confusing options?
Making the right choiceThere is a very thin line between what we learn theoretically and what exactly lies out there in the real world. This has always been the dilemma. There is no right answer to this question. However, many education fairs and career counselling sessions crop up every year during summer when the results are already out and there is not much one can change. There is a need to mentally prepare students and their parents to be open to new ideas and new contemporary careers. Accordingly, there has been a gradual change in trend of expos where education fairs not only focus on education institutions showcasing the courses but also present workshops on various career options giving in depth info about that particular stream. Some well planned education fairs like Career Utsav organise events in December, keeping in mind the time students and parents will need to do their bit of research and take an informed decision. Such career fairs not only guide students with their share of knowledge but also bring in successful, renowned and experienced professionals and experts from different industries to give insightful inputs and firsthand knowledge of the courses which, to a large extent, assist students in making a definitive choice for their career.
These fairs will not only help students make up their mind, but also help them in choosing the best college and course as per their choice or preference. Many colleges and universities from all over the country actively participate in the career fairs to enlighten potential students about the courses they offer. People interested in pursuing further studies abroad or in an international university can also attend these career fairs and learn about interesting courses of choice.
