Distance learning programmes

The Institute of Open and Distance Education (IODE) at Chhattisgarh-based Dr. C.V. Raman University (CVRU) has announced admissions open for the academic session 2015-16.

The institute, which is recognised by the Distance Education Council, offers a range of Undergraduate, Post Graduate and Diploma. On successful completion of the course, certificates, diplomas and degrees will be awarded by CVRU.

The last date for application to IODE programmes is September 30. Application forms can be obtained from CVRU, Bilaspur, either in person on payment of Rs. 100 or through post by sending a written request accompanied with a Demand Draft of Rs. 150 drawn in favour of “Registrar, Dr. C.V. M.Sc. Money, Banking and Finance

Taught at the Department of Economics of the University of Sheffield’s Faculty of Social Sciences, this one-year course prepares students for a career in banking, financial institutions and markets. This is a highly innovative programme that includes core modules in economics, finance, financial institutions and markets as well as quantitative techniques. There are several optional modules also available.

Interested applicants should have a first class or good upper second (2:1) honours degree in economics, usually with mathematics and statistics components. Students must also have an overall IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component. The course commences in September 2016 and the fee is £16,500. MOOC on digital marketing

University of Southampton is offering a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) in Digital Marketing: Challenges and Insights, from October 19. This three-week course is based upon an innovative storytelling methodology wherein learners will be encouraged to share their own stories as consumers or marketers. It will focus on emerging trends in digital culture and online consumer behaviour, data analytics and privacy. It will be offered free of cost and does not require any previous experience of the subject.

The course will be based on an online format and the depth of thinking and analysis required in this course will be of undergraduate level. Students enrolling will be encouraged to create and share digital assets through interactive exercises and social media using the hashtag #FLdigital. A short video may be posted online by the student at the end of the course summarising whatever has been learned and how the skill acquired will be used. Although there is no official academic credit awarded for successful completion, learners will be entitled to a Statement of Participation.
