TCS best project award

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) honored three students of Rajalakshmi Engineering College for their outstanding project done on “Location Information and Passenger Count Retrieval System for Bus Transport through Mobile Phones using SMS/GPRS Techniques”. Giving away the award, Mr. Christopher G Hudson, Principal Consultant, TCS, congratulated the students for working on a very socially relevant project.

Recalling the similarities between the award winning project and the “Smart City” project undertaken by TCS, Mr. Christopher G Hudson emphasized the need for students to get themselves involved in finding solutions to problems that had societal implications.

Women & Media

A national level conference on Women and media was organised at the Alpha Arts and Science College, Chennai, recently. The event was jointly organised by the visual communication department and the women’s cell of the college. The chief guests for the event were Anand Krishna, Information Officer, U.S. Consulate General, Chennai and Ms. Nirmala Periyasamy, Anchor, Zee Tamil, Chennai.

HR conclave 2012

Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai, will be organising its annual event, ‘HR conclave 2012’ on September 8, at its Chennai campus. The conclave will discuss in depth the challenges facing HR in large corporations. Dr. Santrupt Misra, Group HR and Director, Aditya Birla Management Corporation Ltd. will deliver the key note address.

Convocation at AMET

The convocation ceremony of the class of 2012 will be held at AMET University on September 5, 2012, at the university campus. Mr. Efthimos E. Mitropolous, the secretary general of the International Maritime Organisation and now the Chancellor of AMET University and Mr. Lars Modin, managing director of International Tanker Management Holdings Ltd, Dubai, will participate.

Nutrition week at WCC

The department of home science, Women’s Christian College, is all set to celebrate the National Nutrition Week from September 3 to 7. The theme for this year is “colour your plate”. Various events such as cookery and poster competitions, demonstration of healthy recipes and an interactive session with experts in the field of nutrition will be organised. A free diabetes screening camp is also planned.
