Student chapter of the Indian Geographical Society launched

The student chapter of the Indian Geographical Society was inaugurated at the Karpagam College of Engineering here a few days ago. P. D. Arumairaj, head of the IGS' student chapter in Coimbatore, presided over the function. The Executive Committee member of IGS R. Guruban and Mr. Arumairaj spoke on soil testing and structural stability. Faculty and members of the management of Karpagam College of Engineering were present at the inauguration.

Management Development Institute of Singapore has launched the 12-month Master of Science in Tourism and Hospitality course, which is in collaboration with the University of Sunderland. A release says that the curriculum is a combination of real-world experience, fieldwork and classroom-based activities.

Kathir College of Engineering recently conducted the inauguration of the seventh batch of first year B.E. and B.Tech. Students. N. Subramaniam, Managing Director, Habasit Iokoka, Coimbatore, was the chief guest. E.S. Kathir, Founder-Chairman, and Secretary Lavanya Kathir were also present. Principal P. Vijayakumar welcomed the gathering. Mr. Kathir asked the students to improve their skill sets. Dean J. Amos Robert Jayachandran spoke about the on-the-job training programme.

Students were asked to take seriously their part-time training in hotels and restaurants at the inauguration of the Department of Catering and Hotel Management Association at Hindusthan College of Arts and Science. Paul Mahiban, General Manager, Zone by the Park, Coimbatore, the chief guest, also asked the students look at the training as a learning opportunity.

Sakthi Institute of Information and Management Studies recently organised a guest lecture.

SNS College of Technology recently conducted a two-day international seminar on 'Enhanced Research with Targetted Results'.

A release said that the institution conducted the programme in association with King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia. V.P. Arunachalam, Director, SNS College of Technology, was present at the inauguration of the seminar. The discussions were on research areas, selection of quality papers, time management and much more. Software that helped in preparing research papers were demonstrated.

Students on their first day of college should set their goal, said C. Gopinath, Chief Executive Officer, Taalk Shop Academy, at the orientation programme for first year B.E. and B.Tech. students at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology.

A release said that the students should have a dream in such a fashion that their growth was not at the cost of others.

He also asked the students to be clear about why they chose the particular course and wanted them to make sure that it was not at the compulsion of their parents.

Students Jimin Mathew and Nithin Ravi, final year Mechanical Engineering students, Karunya University, developed ergonomically developed stroller and wheel chair to help children with cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus.

The students took up the project after people looking after children with the two conditions approached the Department of Mechanical Engineering to improve the design of stroller and wheel chair so that the children could sit and rest comfortably. The strollers has stoppers on wheels to prevent unwanted movement and the wheel chair has special provisions to make the children with hydrocephalus sit comfortably.

Kalaignar Karunanidhi Institute of Technology recently held an orientation programme for first year B.E. and B.Tech. students and also those who had enrolled through the lateral entry process.

The 17th convocation of Park's College, Tirupur, was held recently.

Technical sessions on industrial exposure marked the inaugural function of the Association.

The action plan of the Association was read out by its office bearers.

A seminar on 'Best practices by European cooperatives' was organised by Tirupur Kumaran College for Women on its premises recently. Delivering keynote address, X.L.X. Wilson, an Assistant Professor at Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidhyalaya College of Arts and Science, pointed out that the European cooperatives had succeeded mainly because of well defined strategies, supportive legislations, enthusiastic cooperative business activities and cooperation between the cooperatives.

“In the specific case of German cooperatives, periodic auditing helped them recover the losses incurred due to frauds. These type of auditing thus help improve the financial health of the cooperatives in general,” he said.

NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear Fashion, in association with an independent organisation named Muyarchi, organised a blood donation camp on the college premises.

The entire blood units collected from the students at the camp were donated to the Blood Bank at the District Headquarters hospital.
