LIBA's corporate citizen award for Tata Chemicals

Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) presented the Mother Teresa Award for Corporate Citizen 2011 to Tata Chemicals and a special award was given to Sobha Developers. The awards were presented by the chief guest N. Gopalaswami I.A.S (retd), Former Chief Election Commissioner, Government of India, and the report of the Award committee was presented by N. Vittal I.A.S (retd), Former Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Government of India.

LIBA instituted the Mother Terasa Award for Corporate Citizen in 1998. The award, which has acquired an all-India reputation and well known in corporate circles, was started with the objective to showcase social responsibility of corporates which have gone far beyond their call of duty to promote welfare activities for the benefit of the poor and marginalised sections of society.

Mr. Gopalaswami in his speech said, “CSR is in fact a subset of Corporate Ethics and unless the corporates follow ethical practices, any CSR, howsoever well done, would at best be a window-dressing. It is therefore the responsibility of all corporate citizens not to stop with CSR but lay a strong foundation for corporate ethics within their companies. Only then we could truly say and with pride that we are responsible corporate citizens.”

In his welcome address, Fr. Christie, SJ, Director, LIBA, said “LIBA is the only B-school in India to recognise companies which demonstrate social commitment and commendable involvement in programmes of CSR far beyond the call of duty.”

On receiving the award, Alka Talwar of Tata Chemicals said, “Everything that we do in the company links to CSR and I think this holistic approach has brought us this award.” On accepting the award, Mr. Gopal Krishnan of Sobha Developers said, “I'm happy receiving this award. Though I can't change the entire world or country, I can at least change the future of a village.”
