DST sanction 9 crore to SVU

Promotion of University Research and Excellence (PURSE), a unit of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) was inaugurated on Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) campus last week.

DST has sanctioned Rs.9 crore under the PURSE scheme to SVU, which ranks 16th among the universities in the country. The funds will be utilised to procure the sophisticated equipment to pave the way for technical upgradation to undertake modern research, the Vice-Chancellor N.Prabhakara Rao said, after inaugurating the centre. PURSE coordinator D.V.R. Saigopal assured to develop the centre in a big way as scholarships have been sanctioned to 39 researchers.

In a related development, Werner Sievers, a physicist from the University of Paderborn (Germany) visited SVU's Physics department last week as part of the Indo-German collaborative project going on for the last fifteen years.

T.S. Chandrasekhara Rao, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences at Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) was unanimously elected the 13th President of Indian Association of Veterinary Anatomists (IAVA) at the national convention and symposium held at Mathura Veterinary University recently.

The IAVA was established in 1983 and has 350 members.

Dr. S. Dhilleswara Rao, a PG student of anatomy was conferred the ‘IAVA Young Scientist Award' for his research presentation.
