MoU signed

Wadhwani Foundation and St. Joseph's Community College have signed an MoU to set up a programme for industry-focused skill development among undergraduates. This is to improve their potential employability. The programme – Career@ITworld: Earn, Learn and Grow into a Global Career – aims to train 500 students in the first year in Bangalore and Hyderabad.

The first pilot batch in Bangalore is open for enrolment and begins in April. The Hyderabad initiative is expected to begin in the July quarter with an academic partner from the State. Students who have passed II PUC / Class 12 are eligible through an entrance test and will get a conditional offer letter. On successful completion of three months' training at St. Joseph's Community College and three months of paid internship at [24]7 Inc., students will become full-time employees with [24]7 Inc. and will receive a diploma certificate from St. Joseph's Community College. In addition, [24]7 Inc. will facilitate higher education for interested candidates by providing various options like part-time employment, education loan, loyalty incentives, etc.

Acharya Habba

Thousands of students from 40 colleges in and around Bangalore participated in a national-level symposium at Acharya Institute, as part of “Acharya Habba,” the techno-cultural event.

The three-day-long fest drew in a headcount of more than 30,000 spectators from various colleges. Students from Tanzania, Iraq, Bhutan, U.K., China, Sri Lanka, Congo, Afghanistan, and South Korea also took part.

At the inaugural function, a “flash mob” of 150 students emerged from the crowd and ran up to the stage disrupting an announcement and performed to Bollywood numbers. Following this, events such as Ethnic Day, cyclotron, marathon, and a Media Cup were organised.

There were 33 events including Rangoli, Math Lecture Competition, Mathematics Quiz, Treasure Hunt, Mad Ads, Fun Speak, Street Play, Rock Show, On Spot Programming, Web Designing, Computer Gaming (CS),Computer Gaming (NFS),Group Dance, Mr. and Ms. Habba, Duet Dance, Marketing, Best Manager, Creative Advertisement, Business Quiz, Vegetable Carving, Tug of War, Fireless Cooking, Rags to Riches, Acharya's Got Talent, Group Song, Solo Song, Photography, and Face Painting.

Workshop

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering of MVJCE, in association with IBM Academic Initiative Programme, recently conducted a workshop on “IBM-TGMC Technology” on the college campus.

The workshop started with a welcome speech by Ankur Mukherjee, IBM-TGMC student ambassador.

The participants included K.S. Badarinarayan, principal of MVJCE, Yogesh Sharma, senior technical consultant for IBM-TGMC of IBM-SWG, the HoDs of all departments and over 250 second year, pre-final year and M.Tech students.

Conference

Bapuji-B schools, Davanagere, conducted its fourth national conference on ‘Management of inclusive growth, issues, challenges and opportunities' recently. The conference was inaugurated by Mukesh Chowdhary, Executive Director, Riddi Siddi Gluco Biols Limited.

He was of the opinion that only when the people belonging to the lowest rung of the society get the basic necessities required to lead a life can overall development of the nation be possible.

He also said that students should develop the capacity to respond properly to what is right and what is wrong.

A souvenir of the conference was released by Govind Nettar, Assistant General Manager, SBM. He said that even today one can find families which do not avail themselves of any banking facility in villages.

The inaugural session was presided over by Anil Kumar G. Garag who focussed on the importance of banking and overall growth of various industries

Many research scholars, corporate delegates, academicians, and postgraduate students presented papers on the main theme and sub-themes. There were more than 90 papers accepted from institutions from Karnataka and other States.
