Being an overseas student brings many new challenges. Being away from home itself requires a lot of courage. But then, great things are accomplished once we move out of our comfort zone. Coming to the city of Cardiff, which is also my first international visit, has been a great experience. Not only have I come across a city filled with scenic beauty, but I have been also introduced to a new style and strategy of teaching, cultural richness, amazing friends, and, overall, a completely new world.

Stepping outside my comfort zone taught me how to manage things alone. Living aboard can be an adventure for students such as me who never knew the nuances of it. From managing the groceries to travelling in a tube, adjusting to the warm weather, walking for miles (as this is what the university students prefer rather than travelling in a taxi) and learning to cook different cuisines from my flat mates, I have done all this and more.

The Master’s of Business Administration programme (MBA) at Cardiff University has introduced me to the real world of business. I got the opportunity to be a part of the talented group of MBA students from different backgrounds and countries such as Africa, Britain, China, Jordan and so on. I have come across people from various parts of the world which has given me the opportunity to learn about different cultures. Our campus life is quite vibrant. The university has a students’ union, which includes members from different social communities. A variety of events are held annually by different societies such as the football society, poet’s society and so on. There’s an Indian society as well.

It is true that studying abroad can be a challenging task, but the knowledge one gains is immense. Apart from academics, getting along with students speaking different languages and representing your country in that diverse cohort of students is a great task in itself.

My experience as a student at Cardiff Business School is proving to be a memorable one. The mentors, faculty and supporting staff have helped me adjust to the new lifestyle and learn new concepts of business in an international context.

My journey as a student abroad has taught me about new dimensions of life and I believe I have so much more to discover.
