The VIT University, Vellore recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Milan, Italy, one of the top universities in Europe, for academic and research cooperation, exchange of faculty and students, conduct of joint seminars and conferences, and exchange of scholarly publications.
G. Viswanathan, Chancellor, signed the MoU on behalf of the VIT, while Enrico Decleva, Rector, signed it on behalf of the University of Milan.
According to a VIT release, established in 1924, the University of Milan is one of the largest government universities in Italy with more than 65,000 students spread across nine schools, 20 doctoral schools and 137 study programmes, and a faculty strength of 2500. It offers different Bachelors', Masters', Doctoral and Professional degree programmes in arts, sciences, engineering, education, law, agriculture, medicine and physical education among others.
Paolo Plevani, Director, School of Biological and Molecular Sciences, University of Milan said that the latter was proud to be a partner with VIT since it shared Mr. Viswanathan's belief in international education.
Though the priority for the MoU is aquatic and marine bio-sources, plant biotechnology and bimolecular sciences, other areas such as ecology and environment, and renewable energy are also in the pipeline.
Sankar Viswanathan, vice-president (Administration), G.V. Sampath, vice-president (Operations), S. Narayanan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, VIT Vellore campus, G. Anilkumar, Director, School of Bio Sciences and Technology and M. Subaji, Assistant Director (International Relations) were present on behalf of the VIT during the MoU-signing function.
