University education is not just about learning skills to manage at the workplace, though that is an important part of it. A well-rounded programme shapes the student into an aware, thinking individual who contributes to the overall development of society. Students are eagerly looking forward to seeing what different universities have to offer them in 2016. Also, final-year students are preparing to graduate from being learners to doers and step into the world at large and put to use what they have learnt. In this setting, a message from vice-chancellors can add impetus and also gently unveil a direction. Education Plus approached the heads of some universities across India and asked them what their university have on offer for 2016 that would be new and also what they wished for their students.

A university education depends on how much you give, not how much you invest. You learn within and outside the classroom and across the board to become engaged citizens of the world. University education is not just instrumental — eventually it shapes you to contribute to a better society.

On the whole, 2016 will add value in a very special way to the lives of VITians.

Students should work in multi-disciplinary teams, come up with ideas to solve the problems of society, be research-focused and remain entrepreneurial in their approach to education. They should exploit all opportunities and use all avenues for furthering excellence and strive to accomplish their goals.
