“Sarnia, in Ontario, is known as the chemical valley of Canada, as the major oil and gas companies and refineries are located in this region. It is these industries that support universities and colleges in the area by providing internships and jobs to the students,” says Bradley Gray, International admissions officer, Lambton College, Canada.

Mr. Gray who was in the city recently to promote the postgraduate programme in Information Technology Professional (ITP) offered by the Lambton College, says the students of the college are trained to suit the industry requirement and therefore, have a better chance of getting job. The Industry-academia collaboration is at its best in our college, he says. The college that is governed by the Ministry of training, college and universities, offers diplomas and advanced diploma programmes only.

“Internship is one sure way to find job placement in Canada. The courses in Lambton College are internship-oriented and it is up to the students to find their internships,”Mr. Gray says. The college is well known for its courses in business administration, IT, power engineering and instrumentation. Right now, the ITP course is promoted in a big way because of the huge requirement of qualified IT professional for the next 10 years. The ITP programme at this college comes with the CISCO certification (free of cost) and also the curriculum is designed by the industry and not the academia.

International students can stay in Canada and search for jobs for one or two years, depending on what they pursue. And upon completion of 2000 hours of work, they will be eligible to apply for permanent residence status.
