Conference: The NMAM Institute of Engineering organised a two-day international conference on “Emerging trends in engineering” at Nitte in Udupi district on May 8 and 9.

Inaugurating the conference, Vithal Madyalkar, GMU Programme Manager, IBM Bengaluru, spoke about how fields such as Cloud Analysis Mobility and Security (CAMS), Big data analysis and Internet Of Things (IOT) could change the way things worked in engineering sector.

Sourav Dutta, Executive Telecom and Cloud Leader, IBM, Bengaluru, who released the conference proceedings, said spoke about the importance of Information Technology in healthcare, banking, automotive services, travel and construction sectors. He also focused on the development of information technology in all streams of engineering. He concluded by saying that Information Technology was an enabler and backbone for the changes.

Presiding over the inaugural function, Principal of the Institute, Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, said that it was necessary to understand the research done by others and how it could be improved. He also highlighted the various opportunities provided by the institution for research and innovations.

Balasubramani R., Organizing Secretary, welcomed the gathering. Udaya Kumar K., Programme Coordinator, proposed a vote of thanks.

Besides expert lectures, over 100 technical research papers from different parts of the country were presented at the conference.

Summer camp: The NMAM Institute of Technology and Foundation for Advancement of Education and Research held a month-long summer camp titled ‘Technology Barrier Reduction’ programme for class 10 students of rural areas at Nitte in Udupi district.

The camp, which aimed at creating technical awareness among students, began on April 20. The valedictory was held at Nitte on May 12.

Speaking as the chief guest at the valedictory, Chandrashekar, Vice Principal of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), said that such camps would increase the confidence of students coming from rural areas. Students should concentrate on their studies. This would help them realise their goals. “Share what you have learnt in this camp with other students,” he said.

Presiding over the function, Niranjan Chiplunkar, Principal of NMAM Institute of Technology, said that Information Technology was dominating all spheres of life. Students should use the latest information for their education. “You should have a vision and dedication for your work. You should strive to put into action your plans,” he said.

Bhaskar Achar, Assistant Professor, welcomed the gathering. Narasimha Marakala read the report. Dileep proposed a vote of thanks.

As many as 35 students from 12 rural high schools participated in the camp.

As many as 30 resource persons spoke on different topics including intellectual development, soft skills, personality development and skill development.
