Research grant to JCE: The Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST) under the chairmanship of scientist C.N.R. Rao has made a research grant for ‘Improvements in the field of Science and Technology in Higher Education (K-FIST)’ to the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Jain College of Engineering, Belagavi for the financial year 2014-15. This financial support would facilitate developing and strengthening science and technology infrastructure and laboratory facilities for imparting quality teaching and for pursuing research activities in the institution.

Accordingly, the JCE would set-up a “JCE-Power System Simulation Laboratory” under programme coordinator G.H. Kulkarni, Head of the Department, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, to support and strengthen the postgraduate programme in the department. It would help train students and practising engineers in the emerging trends related to analytical modelling and simulation, focusing towards planning, operation and control of power systems.

K-FIST level-1 provides grants of Rs.20 lakh and maximum up to Rs.10 lakh annually for a period of two years for enhancing the laboratory infrastructure every year.

Workshop: KLS Gogte College of Commerce had organised a one-day workshop on “Examination reforms in the present education system”. Dilip Tilve, president of Belagavi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, was the chief guest. Resource person J.G. Naik, former Registrar (Evaluation), Rani Channamma University, spoke on examination reforms in traditional courses. He highlighted the need for colleges to prepare for choice-based Credit System and grading system of evaluation.

Another resource person, Anil Anikhindi, spoke on examination reforms in professional courses. He spoke on regular updating of syllabus and common entrance examination for all professional courses. VTU Registrar H.G. Shekharappa spoke on examination reforms in technical courses and stressed on the need to use technology in conducting examinations and evaluation procedures.

KLE sign MoU: KLE University and Regional Medical Research Centre of the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), Belagavi, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work towards finding solutions to various communicable and non-communicable diseases through mutual cooperation by utilising the strengths of respective organisations. The MoU has been signed also to develop academic links n the areas of healthcare, nutrition and life sciences under the principles of mutual understanding, common interest and mutually complementary activities. The MoU was signed by KLEU Vice-Chancellor C.K. Kokate and S.D Kholkute, Director In-charge at RMRC.

Recruitment: As many as 39 students were selected in the pool campus drive by Wipro Technologies held at G.D. David Foundation’s Trinity Finishing School for final year graduates recently. The pool campus drive was attended by more than 150 students from BCA, B.Sc and M.Sc courses from Belagavi, Hubbali, Naragund, Bailhongal and Dharwad. The students were put through a rigorous aptitude test followed by a personal interview.

A total of 39 students were selected in the final round and they will join Wipro Technologies after graduation. The students selected are from Gogte College of Commerce, Jain College of BCA, GSS College, RL Science College, Government Degree College, Bharatesh BCA College, P.C. Jabin Science College and Gomatesh Degree College.
