Back in 2012, while Prashanti Ganesh was working as a journalist in a daily, she was asked to write about The Quad, which is said to be Chennai’s first fitness bootcamp in the city. A state-level athlete when she was in school, Prashanti was impressed with what she saw and decided to join them. “After training with them for a while, they offered me an internship and I decided to take it up. I quit my job and joined them full-time,” says Prashanti. She worked her way up the hierarchy and went on to become an assistant coach. It was there that she got to meet Sandeep Achanta again. Prasanti had interviewed him a year ago when he was a member of the Chennai Parkour group. Sandeep too had joined The Quad as an intern.

After working for two years, they decided to pursue higher education in fitness and strength training. “We realised that we will have to travel abroad for that. We went to the United States for two months. Apart from finishing certification courses, we travelled to 19 cities and interned with various gyms and experienced coaches,” says Sandeep. They put together the best of all their ideas from their learning experiences, and started Strength System. “We had no plans to start on our own, but after our travel, we realised that there was a new approach to fitness that we could explore. Back home, we either have personal trainers who give one-on-one training or group classes where a single trainer is assigned to a maximum of 30 people,” explains Prashanti.

What they are planning to introduce is semi-private training, where a trainer works with a group of up to six.

“We will mostly work with barbells, dumbbells and kettlebells in small groups, combining fun with training.

The advantage of working with a small group is that after working on the basics for a few weeks, trainees can start working on individual goals,” says Prashanti.

Located at Second Floor, 5C, Sriman Srinivasan Cross Street, Sriman Srinivasan Salai, Venus Colony, Alwarpet, Strength System is all set to start classes from July.
