Residents of Bhujanga Rao Street, Bhujanga Rao Cross Street, Vishwanathan Street, Jesudasan Street and Ranganathan Street, Radha Nagar, find themselves entangled in a persistent problem — sagging live wires dangerously close to their windows and balconies. This seems to be an old persistent problem, one that is over two decades old.

“Repeated pleas have been made to various authorities, over the last two decades, but in vain,” M. Ramanathan, a long-time resident of Bhujanga Rao Cross Street, said.

Some of these high-tension wires run close to windows and could be reached by a child stretching out his hand through the window.

Residents say this situation could have been averted if the the electricity board had displayed foresight while erecting the poles, back in the days when the area was developing slowly into a residential locality.

The wires seem to ‘brush past’ some of the new buildings that are coming up in the locality.

“Steps should be taken at the earliest by the authorities concerned before any an untoward incident happens,” said G. Deva, a resident of Vishwanathan Street.

Power cables hang very low on Radha Nagar Main Road, which is home to various commercial establishments. Efforts to contact the authorities concerned proved futile.
