V.N. Murali Krishnan, a yoga teacher and a resident of Pazhavanthangal, has been honoured with the ‘Best Yoga Teacher Award’ for 2014-2015 .

The award was conferred on him by Tamil Nadu Sports Yogasana Association, Adambakkam, at Chennai Corporation Social Welfare Marriage Hall, Kodambakkam.

Krishnan has completed M.Phil in Yoga from the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University. “I have been practising yoga for the last 38 years. I learnt prayanama from my mother Lakshmi and Suryanamaskar and other asanas from my father V.N. Murthy,” says Krishnan.

He is also a recipient of the ‘Best Actor Award’ for the drama ‘Samuthaya Parvai’ produced by Modern Theatres, Neyveli Lignite Corporation, and has acted in more than 60 dramas.

“I used to act in a lot of plays with social themes and with spend the money collected from these plays, towards supporting noble causes,” says Murali, who has donated blood over 15 times.

Murali Krishnan has won several prizes in yoga competitions in different categories at the district and national levels. He also conducts free yoga camps at regular intervals.

“Practising yoga regularly helps improve memory power, maintain emotional balance and stay fit and healthy. My aim is to create awareness about yoga and I would like to dedicate this award to the Father of Yoga, Patanjali and Tirumular, a Tamil Shaivite mystic and a writer,” he said.
