The Pallavapuram municipality has fitted new Light Emitting Diodes (LED’s) on the western side of the Chromepet bus stop. The ten 90-watt LEDs replace the 150-watt incandescent light bulbs.

These lights have a longer life and also lower power consumption. Commuters, who board buses from the stop to reach their destinations in various parts of the city have welcomed the municipality’s ‘commuter-safety initiative’.

They wanted similar lighting system to be set up in all major bus stops across the city. S. Sowmya, an employee of a private firm, said she was quite happy with the facility.

M. Preethi, a student, said that digital information boards equipped with Global Positioning System and displaying the details such as time and route map of the approaching bus services in Tamil, Hindi and English, should be fitted for the convenience of commuters.

K.M.R. Nissar Ahamed, chairman, Pallavapuram municipality, along with other municipality officials, inspected this bus stop, after it had been provided with the new lighting system.
