After months of waiting, the new Urban Primary Health Centre (PHC) centre near Veeramamunivar park in J.J. Nagar, Mogappair, was opened recently.

The PHC is the first government hospital in the neighbourhood.

Corporation officials said the Rs.66.50 lakh hospital was funded under the general funds of Zone – 7 (Ambattur). The facility has a dedicated maternity ward and can accommodate at least 20 patients. It has separate rooms for doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff and for visitors on the ground floor of the hospital. In the first floor, the hospital has an out-patient unit where around 50 patients can be accommodated. The PHC is built on a 1,500 sq. ft. plot, which comes under 93 ward of Zone – 7, that has a population of around 33,000 persons.

“The new PHC ended our ordeal of travelling a long distance for treatment in a government hospital,” said V. Ramani, a resident of J.J. Nagar, adding that the facility should have adequate doctors and paramedical staff.
