It has been a busy year for Dream Runners. It is conducting eight training camps across the city, aimed at making beginners ready for Dream Runners Half Marathon — 2015 (DRHM), which would take place on July 26.

“The training programme aims to enhance stamina and endurance. It can be taken up not just by participants of DRHM-15, but anyone keen on building stamina and endurance. The training is offered free,” says Khuzem Lal, race director of DRHM-15.

Training camps are conducted at Elliots Beach in Beasant Nagar; Palavakkam beach on East Coast Road; Sholinganallur-ECR tollgate on Old Mahabalipuram Road; Anna University; Boat Club Area in Raja Annamalaipuram; Light House in Marina Beach; Panagal Park in T. Nagar; and Bougainvilla Park in Anna Nagar.

The training sessions are conducted on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. Of the 5,000 participants, around 500 have already enrolled for the training.

This edition of Dream Runners Half Marathon, which is the fourth, has been dedicated to the cause of donating prosthetic legs to the needy.

The theme is “Let Us Run So They Can Walk.”

Dream Runners has associated itself with Freedom Trust in Thiruvanmiyur. The proceeds of DRHM-15 will go to supporting FREEDOM (Foundation for the Rehabilitation, Education and Empowerment of the Disabled of Madras) Trust.

Another key member of DRHM-15, Alinawaz Raja says “As marathoners, we thought we should lend a helping hand to those who are physically-challenged. So, this year, we wanted to assist such people by providing them with prosthetic legs.

In the previous years, we supported the causes of organ donation and care for the destitute and the despressed.”

“So far, 12 people with prosthetic legs and one visually-impaired have registered for the event. Of the 900 women participants, 240 have registered for the 21km-run and the rest for the 10 km-run,” says founding member Rekha Sudarsan.

Those interested in learning more about the event may contact Khuzem Lal at 90031 10786.
