While book lovers are still smarting from the loss of the Landmark bookstore at Apex Plaza, there are signs that the one at Citi Center, on Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai in Mylapore, will soon pull down its shutters too.

On August 1, when I went to the bookstore at Citi Center for its discount sale, I was pained to see several empty racks.

These racks would always be filled with books. Never before had I seen them so empty.

A disturbing thought came into my mind: maybe they are going to wind up this outlet. I asked the staff about the empty racks. My heart sank at what they had to tell me. Landmark’s term at City Center is reportedly coming to an end.

After August 16, there might not be any books here to share their stories with us.
