In aid of visually challenged girl students

Smt. Rajeswari Radhakrishnan Charitable Trust has opened its gates to visually challenged girl students. Nilacharal Ashram at No. 8 (old No. 19) Easwaran Colony, Nanganallur, provides shelter to these students coming from remote rural areas. The ashram was inaugurated on May 13. Nilacharal Ashram, which at present has eight inmates, provides free accommodation, food, education and medical facilities to the students.

The inaugural function was attended by V.G. Kamath, National Banking General Manager, Bank of India; R. Gopalakrishna, former National Banking General Manager, Bank of India; R. Suryanarayanan, president, Rotary Club of Nanganallur; S. Kannan, president, Rotary Club of MCC; Sundararajan, former secretary, Rotary Club of Nanganallur; S. Gowrishankar, AGM & HR, Bharath Heavy Electricals Limited; V. Shankar, Director, TVS America; V. Chidambarakumar, General Secretary, Bank of India Officers Association; and V. Narayanan, founder-president, Mukthi Karma Sthala Trust.

Obtaining jobs

The students are given computer education and Nilacharal Ashram helps them pursue academic courses for getting jobs. ith support from the trust, Suryakala got placed in Bharath Heavy Electricals. It is also arranging for her eye operation. The trust also helps wards of young widows with their education.

M. Radhakrishnan, founder and managing trustee of Nilacharal Ashram, says he wants to provide ‘E–Library’ for visually challenged students before the next academic year. He also wants women volunteers to read to the inmates and act as scribes during examination.

His daughter, Anusha Radhakrishnan, also a trustee, assists her father in his noble mission.
