The Government Railway Police has opened a station at the Thiruvanmiyur MRTS station.

According to a police official, the GRP station was set up at the Thiruvanmiyur MRTS because it is located on the IT corridor and is busy most of the time.

He said there had been instance of chain snatching at the station. IT professionals had been caught consuming alcohol at the terminal.

The room where the station functions now is part of a temporary arrangement.

Soon, a permanent building will come up for a full-fledged station.

Once that is in place, FIRs can be filed there.

Until then, FIRs will be registered at the Egmore circle.

“At present, this station is manned by 15 personnel, including four women. We need more hands for patrolling the station premises. Many don’t opt for GRP as the allowance for food and travelling is less when compared to what the city police get,” added the official.
