A ride down Model School Road in Thousand Lights is not meant to be smooth. The narrow stretch, which is only a few meters long, has five speed breakers. They are for slowing the vehicles on the crowded road. However, motorists complain that lack of lighting poses a problem.
“The road is poorly lit and these speed breakers are not painted. I was riding on the road around 10 p.m. and failed to notice one of the speed breakers. I hit it and almost fell,” says Madhan Kumar, a resident of Alwarpet, who took the route to reach Kahader Nawaz Khan Road.
Those who are regular travellers on the stretch are aware of these obstacles, but newcomers are taken by surprise.
“We understand that the stretch is busy and need the speed breakers. But painting them or installing reflectors will be of great help to motorists,” says Madhan.
The road is used as a shortcut by many motorists to rich Nungambakkam through Mount Road. Not just the speed breakers, other factors make riding here a nightmare.
“ On the road, garbage is strewn everywhere. The dustbins get filled by 11 a.m. After that, everything is thrown on the road. It is a nightmare for pedestrians as there is hardly any space for walking. Even the footpaths are encroached,” says a resident of Nungambakam.
