Environmentalist Foundation of India is inviting volunteers to clean the water bodies in the city before the onset of North–East monsoon. Some of the water bodies to be cleaned are Ayappakam Lake, Madambakkam Lake, Narayanapuram Lake, Keezhkattalai Lake, Thazhambur Lake, Thiruneermalai Lake, Mudichur Lake, Keshavardhini Temple Tank, Valasaravakkam, and Veera Anjaneyar Temple Tank, Porur. Cleaning work will be carried out every Sunday, between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m.

“We have requested the Public Works Department to grant permission to restore (through scientific method) Perumbakkam and Nanmangalam lakes,” Arun Krishnamoorthy, Founder, EFI, said.

Almost all the water bodies in the city are dumped with plastic trash and garbage and in some, sewage is let into. Due to such activity, a layer of plastic and polythene has been formed in lake beds and this prevents water percolation and pollutes the water body,” he added. Those interested in being a part of the effort should write in to for details.
