It functioned at the platform and has now been merged with another counter located on a street outside the Meenambakkam railway station.

It’s tedious to get a ticket at the Meenambakkam railway station. Earlier, a ticket counter for suburban trains functioned at the platform. But, a month ago, this counter was merged with the one on Princess Street, Meenambakkam. As a result, a large section of commuters, including those from Jayalakshmi Nagar and Krishna Nagar (Zamin Pallavaram),  Uzhaippali Nagar and Moovarasampet (Madipakkam) and Subramania Nagar and Anbu Nagar (Pallavaram), have to use the station foot-over-bridge via the vehicular-pedestrian subway.

“Most of the commuters coming from the eastern side of Meenambakkam are unaware of the relocation and they search for the counter,” M. Kannan, a commuter said.

“This arrangement is particularly inconvenient for senior citizens coming from the eastern side, as they have to climb up to the end of the station to buy tickets. The problem is compounded during rush hour. It would be of great help if a counter is opened at the platform,” said R. Suganya, a commuter.

According to commuters, there has been an increase in the number of people using trains. They allege that none of the buses, except for white board services, halt at Meenambakkam, Alandur and St. Thomas Mount bus stops. For this reason, commuters avoid waiting for a long time for their route numbers and prefer commuting by trains.

“Steps will soon be taken to open a counter at the platform,” railway officials said.
