Members of Tower Twisters, the Anna Nagar Chapter of Chennai runners, will be cycling from Anna Nagar to Mahabalipuram on Sunday. They will start from Bougainvillea Park at 4 a.m. and reach Mahabalipuram for breakfast. “The group will be divided into two — those who will ride for 100 km and others, for 60 km. People opting for the longer ride will start from Anna Nagar, the others will start from Madhya Kailash. They will bring their bicycles in a car and pedal from there,” says Clement Williams, member of the group.

Tower Twisters consists of runners from different age groups, who meet regularly to run together. “Cycling has been an important part of our cross-training and many of us enjoy doing it. This inspired us to go on longer rides,” he says.

Three recovery vehicles will be available throughout the ride, which will be useful for medical and other assistance. “We have cars with drivers stationed every 15km for any assistance and for refuelling. We are taking a technician with us, in case of major breakdowns. We have a couple of doctor riders and they carry their first aid kits too.”.

Last month, the group had organised something similar, in which close to 40 people participated and 11 of them completed more than 100 km. The rest did a 45km ride. This month, 25 people have opted for the 100km ride and 15 for the 60km ride. They are planning a cycling trip to Pondichery in January.”
