A lending library on spiritual books

The difficulty of finding well-printed spiritual books at affordable prices has encouraged Shantha Ambat (70) to start a lending library of such books at her house.

She runs Abundant Life Library, as the lending library is called, for the last two years.

Around 23 categories of books adorn the shelves, including biographies, and books on inspirational stories, meditation, marriage and family, health and well-being, women, youth and quiz.

“A small verandah in my house was lying unused and I converted it into a library,” says Shantha. Collecting books was not a problem for her.

“I owned at least 300 books and when I discussed the idea with my friends, they started donating their books,” says Shantha who now has around 1,500 books on her racks, including books in Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam.

"The books would be of much help to avid readers and especially students of Theology," adds Shantha.

She says she has not advertised the library as she does not look at the exercise from commercial point of view. However, she says she charges a one-time registration fee of Rs.200 just to make people understand the value of books.

The library is located at No.84-B, Shanthi Colony, 154 AE, 4th Avenue. For details, contact 9283276180.
