When success is your ally, opportunities never cease. Bollywood actors have discovered a new arrow in their arsenal, one that they are just dying to launch. And thanks to their popular appeal, filmmakers are encouraging them to explore this talent as well. From hit he-man Salman Khan to newbie Shraddha Kapoor, everyone is eager to croon for their own movies. And the audience? Simply loving it. Thanks to some great technology (some even without it) actors manage to do a decent job of singing. So it’s no longer just a Sridevi shrieking the refrain ‘Chandni Main Teri Chandni’ or the multi-talented Big B crooning his own hits. More and more actors today have turned singers and they are actually music to the ears.

The Salman swagger

Who would think Salman Khan of the macho swagger could also sing? Well, he has done it three times now. With the latest song in Kick he only seeks to amplify the effect of his vocal chords. Hello Brother and God Tussi Great Ho had a couple of numbers to his credit but with Kick’s ‘Hangover’ he sounds really different. He has even sung a version of ‘Jumme Ki Raat’ in the movie, originally sung by Mika Singh and Palak Muchchal. Apparently, he is so buoyed by the response to these two songs that Salman is all set to record one more!

Allure of Alia

She preens, she pouts, she acts, she sings. Lethal, ain’t that? Alia Bhatt even has A. R. Rahman endorsing her singing. Imtiaz Ali gave her the first opportunity in Highway with ‘Sooha Saha’ composed by Rahman and if that one didn’t quite leave everyone mesmerised, then Alia hit her second one for a six with Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’s ‘Main Tennu Samjhawan’. This is one actress who could consider singing as an alternative career. If ever she stops acting!

Singing Shraddha

While she’s busy rubbing people in the industry and in the media the wrong way with her highhandedness, there is no turning away from her talent. A decent actress, Shraddha has just proved that she is a better singer. In Ek Villain, she rendered the beautiful ‘Galliyan’ and left the junta asking for more. So more it is. Shraddha is going to sing a Kashmiri folk song in her upcoming Vishal Bharadwaj movie Haider. Tabu will also take to the mike with her, we hear. The two will also perform live at the music launch of the film, it is rumoured. For Shraddha, that’s nothing new. She was the first actress to sing unplugged for Ek Villain, an act that was followed by Alia’s live version of ‘Samjhawan’.

Priyanka’s musical punch

Priyanka, of the ‘In My City’ fame, which got a quite a few brickbats, apparently had a clause in her international contract that forbade her from singing for Hindi movies. That seems to be out of the way now, as there is news that she has sung a song for the upcoming Mary Kom. Only once before has Priyanka sung for a Hindi film. That was for Rohan Sippy’s Bluffmaster where she was part of the ‘Ek Main Aur Ek Tu Hai’ song.

The Parineeti-Aditya duet

These two talented actors also possess singing talent and the word on the street is that they are crooning for their upcoming film Daawate-E-Ishq. Parineeti and Aditya have sung live on public platforms earlier and have proved their talent. Parineeti has spoken many times of how much she would love to sing in her own films. According to director Mohit Suri, he couldn’t give Aditya a chance to sing in Aashiqui 2, as he has a voice more suited for English songs.
