After a hectic schedule at Goa, the unit helmed by director Chandu returned to Ramoji Film City to shoot the rest of the offbeat love story, Prema Oka Maikam produced by D. Venkata Suresh and K. Suryakanth. We are informed over phone that the director is filming an important scene involving lead star – Charmee and the film’s hero Rahul (of Happy Days fame) and as we approached the location, the vast swimming pool with its eco friendly ambience welcomed us. Charmee looked every inch a glamour queen as she relaxed in a pool chair, chatting with Rahul. The conversation is inaudible as we have to stay out of the ‘field area’ for cinematographer Praveen Bangari to capture the sequence in his high end motion picture digital camera. From the stars’ expressions as they performed for the scene and the way Chandu carefully watched them from the video screen, we presumed that it is a pivotal scene in the movie.

During the break he gave a glimpse of the content. “The story basically revolves around three characters – a call girl, a poet and a playback singer. Charmee plays the call girl; she is no ordinary lady of the evening or a harlot who spends the night with every Tom Dick and Harry. She is intelligent and independent and chose this profession as she treated it like any other career. Money alright, but just to earn money she doesn’t indulge in floozy acts. She has to like the person first to spend time with him to entertain. Such is her character. Rahul plays the romantic poet who chances upon meeting this woman and she takes an instant liking towards him. Saranya (of Premisthe fame) is cast as a popular playback singer who rose to fame from one of those television singing competition programs. She had acted in my earlier movie, 10th class too. Rahul and Saranya form the love pair in the musical love story.” He adds, “Simply because we have two heroines and a hero, do not presume it is a triangular love story. The treatment is quite different. Ravibabu makes a guest appearance and in fact it is his role that twists the tale to a curious angle. Rao Ramesh is cast as Charmee’s doctor friend and Chandramohan as the hero’s friend (Satish)’s father while Surekhavani plays the heroine’s elder sister.”

The film has about eight songs and the director says that he will reveal the names of the music directors soon. Senior film journalist Pulagam C. Narayana nee Pulagam Chinnarayana debuts as a dialogue writer. Incidentally, he had won a Nandi award for his book on cinema, ‘ Aanati Aanavallu. “The crisp and punchy dialogues are value addition.” Sony Charishta, Jackie, Prithvi, ‘Thagubothu’ Ramesh and Chanti are in the cast.

Chandu plans to release the movie in January next.
