She made her Tamil film debut with Thadayara Thaaka. Now busy with her next Tamil film, Puthagam , Rakul Preet Singh says she has been bowled over by the love of the people here. In fact, she is so impressed with the Puthagam team that she is keen on taking up more projects in the South. Says Rakul, who is also working on a Hindi film: “People here are very warm. I want to do another Tamil film once I am through with my present commitments.”

Puthagam , directed by Vijay Adhiraj, features actor Arya’s brother, Satya, in the lead. Telugu star Jagapathi Babu also plays an important role in it.

Rakul plays a journalist in the film. She says, “The comfort level I share with the cast and crew of Puthagam has been instrumental in bringing out my best, in terms of performance. I am not a Tamil-speaking girl and so, initially, I took down my lines a day prior to the shoot so that I would be able to memorise them. Director Vijay is good at explaining things. He is very considerate. One day, he told me, ‘I want you to relax and enjoy yourself. You are doing a great job.’ That made a big difference; gradually, I gave up the practice of taking down notes. I can say my confidence has grown to the extent of learning my lines on the spot and delivering them.”

Puthagam , which revolves around a book containing a secret, is a romantic film with a small twist in the plot. “Satya plays a person living off his friends,” says Rakul.

What about her Hindi film?

“It’s a T-series project. I’ve completed two schedules and almost 40 per cent of the film is done. I was shooting for it in Cape Town and hence couldn’t attend the audio launch of Puthagam . Unfortunately, I can’t divulge more details about it now,” says Rakul, smiling.
