Kadhalae Ennai Kadhali

Second time funny

The trailer of Sudigadu , the Telugu remake of the hit Tamil Padam, seems to have evoked a positive response, what with several celebrities announcing on social networking sites that they liked it. In fact, one of the Telugu industry’s top directors S. S. Rajamouli had recently tweeted, ‘Just watched Sudigadu ’s trailer. Burst out laughing and am showing it to everyone at home...:) Looks Like a laugh riot...’

Ask director C. S. Amudhan, who directed the original, if he regrets not having directed its Telugu version as well, and he says, “Not at all. I definitely want to do a Telugu film but not the remake of Tamil Padam . To be honest, I am now bored with that story.”

For the director, what’s of interest now is his next film Rendavathu Padam . “Almost done, I need just 10 days more to finish the project. It’s difficult to classify this film, but I can assure you it will be funny. This is not a spoof like my first film, but we are trying to take the audience through many genres.”

“Richard, Vimal and Arvind Akash are playing the lead roles along with Remya Nambeesan and Vijayalakshmi. One of the highlights is a song, something you have not heard before. The audio will be out by the end of August and the movie, by September.”

Attracting global talent

Tamil cinema seems to have gone global. Not only are Tamil movies being screened across the globe, they seem to be attracting talent from across the world. Yes, after Amy Jackson, who has now become an integral part of the industry, another actress from the West has now acted in a Tamil film.

Hollywood actor Anara has acted in a film titled Kadhalae Ennai Kaadhali . The film, shot extensively in London, is directed by Shaan and features a Tamil actor Santhosh as the hero.

Says Shaan: “The film is about an English girl falling in love with a Tamil boy after he helps her out of a difficult situation. However, their families don’t approve of their love. I wanted to showcase the fact that although we are tolerant of foreigners, we as a society don’t approve of marrying them. I needed an English girl for the role and Anara seemed perfect for it.”
