Remember Kidilam Firoz, the radio jockey (RJ) who talked his way into the Limca Book of Records for the ‘most lengthy show in a regional language done live by a single radio jockey’? Well, he has been off air for city listeners for the past three years since he moved to the West Asia, where he has been working as a RJ.
Firoz is now moving from “on air” to “on screen”. He has starred in Kallu-The Stone , a short film he has directed and scripted too. “ Kallu… is a humorous take on married life. It is about a young man who finds a stone. He carries the stone with him wherever he goes. He marries and the stone latches itself to his wife. She now bears the weight of the stone. Model Lekshmi Pramod plays my wife. How the couple finally share the weight of the stone, forms the rest of the story. The movie is a silent film; everything is expressed through the use of expression and through appropriate use of music.”
A “metaphorical film”, Kallu… has a message in it.
“Divorce cases are rising by the dozen. Kallu… is on how marital life becomes easier when problems and tasks are shared equally between husband and wife.”
Kallu… is not Firoz’s first outing into the cinema industry. The chatterbox RJ has acted in four other short films – Thaniyavarthanam , Intention , Break and Walk to Remember . He scripted Thaniyavarthanam and Break and scripted and directed Walk To Remember . “I enjoy doing films,” says Firoz, who was an active theatre artist during his college days.
Seven minutes long, Kallu-The Stone will be releasing on YouTube shortly. The film was shot in and around Thiruvananthapuram and Kuttikanam. Barring one or two people, like still photographer Mahadevan Thampy, who has cranked the camera for Kallu… , the rest of the team consist of those from the radio industry.
