High Five

Bullit

Michael Madana Kama Rajan

Fair warning if you ever plan to watch this film with me. I know the entire script by heart and will recite lines a second before they are spoken on screen. Every time I watch this film, I end up with an aching tummy. That is why I , and I suspect all of us, will never tire of watching this classic.

Duel

If you are a fan of thrillers, this is a must-watch. This film will ruin long distance drives for you though. After you watch the film, you will get hte chills every time you see a truck behind your car on the highway. Consider yourself warned.

Bullit

As a car fanatic, this thriller, starring Steve McQueen, get my vote mainly for a long car chase scene involving a Ford Mustang and a Dodge Charger through the streets of San Franscisco, a scene shot in the open roads without closing down traffic. A lot of us would have seen parts of this chase sequence (that wons its editor an Oscar in 1968) in the climax of Rajinikanth's Priya, into which it was, more or less, copy-pasted.

An American in Paris

Gene Kelly's movies are the closest Hollywood will ever come to what the rest of the world calls 'Bollywood musicals'. The movies he acted, or shoudl I say danced, are focussed on music, dance and romance, like in most of our films. Of all the movies, I have seen starring Gene Kelly, this is my favorite. Gene Kelly and the female lead, Lesie Caron, are simply amazing in the dance swquences. Ther eis little doubt that this film has inspired many Indian choreographers. You will know what I mean when you watch it.

Every Rajini Padam

Wearing a shabby coat, trousers, an untucked shirt and a loosened tie, one man, Rajinikanth, opened a gate that led into our collective subconsciousness. Any favorite movie list of mine will be incomplete without mention of at least one Rajinikanth film. But I just cant get myself to choose bewtween his movies. Only a voluminous book can do justice to what I feel about Rajinikanth and his movies, but unfortunately, i am not qualified enough to write it.
