Director Mohan Raja

Director Mohan Raja

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching his M. Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi and Santosh Subramaniam , and was chatting with Mohan Raja about how he chose to make a switch with his recent blockbuster Thani Oruvan .

Halfway through the conversation, I realised that Santosh Subramaniam is actually inspired by the story of his life. Who would have thought! “Those exact carrom board scenes have taken place at home. My friend took the essence of my story and made the Telugu blockbuster, which I then remade in Tamil,” he said with a smile. “Wasn’t it embarrassing to see your life on screen,” I asked. “It was, especially so because my father editing it. But we took it in our stride.” he said.

And that’s where I got the concept of the shot (even though it did take a while to get him to smile right).

What a sport! Here I was teasing this man, and he was actually playing along, only to get it right.

It was fun to direct this director.
