Chaar Din Ki Chandni
Genre: Comedy
Director: Samir Karnik
Cast: Tushaar Kapoor, Kulraj Randhawa, Anupam Kher, Om Puri, Chandrachur Singh, Sushant Singh, Mukul Dev, Anita Raaj, Johnny Lever, Farida Jalal
Storyline: A Rajput boy tries to get his London-based girlfriend acquainted with his family during a wedding only to realise that his brothers have all fallen in love with her...
Ups: The radiance of the leading woman Kulraj Randhawa and the commitment of actors of the calibre of Anupam Kher, Om Puri, Farida Jalal and Johnny Lever to give this mess of a film their best shot.
Downs: This is Tushaar Kapoor's master class in acting that involves him teaching us three expressions that qualify him to do a comedy. One, employ the smile and speak your lines to look in love. Two, look clueless and speak your lines because that is sufficient for a comedy of errors. Three, wear a turban, beard and sunglasses so that nobody can read your expressions. Thanks to films such as Singh is Kinng and Yamla Pagla Deewana , any actor in a turban is automatically assumed to be hilarious. This is a comedy that substitutes jokes with slaps, Tushaar, people getting beaten up, Tushaar, cringe-inducingly insensitive gay jokes, more Tushaar, song and dance, plot contrivances, interval... and repeat, with Tushaar in a turban in the second half, until the final father-son face-off that ends with the rest of the ensemble tearing up at the disability of the hero to act and the inability of the makers to produce one genuine laugh in this comedy. Also, the Chandni hangover looms large over the background score and remixes to ensure that the assault on our senses is complete.
Bottomline: All din, no light at the end of the tunnel. A never-ending life sentence you wouldn't wish upon your enemies.
