Sandhya Janak has come a long way in her journey in tinsel town

Teacher, lecturer, soft skills trainer, science journalist, documentary film maker, home maker and a glamorous onscreen mom to heroes and heroines; now she is Sumitra in Bapu's Sri Rama Rajyam. . When Sandhya Janak announced to her father that she had bagged a role in Shekar Kammula's Happy Days he asked her if it was necessary for her to be in the public eye! She replied that she wouldn't be playing a heroine but a mother. After the film released the happy dad kept asking her what her next film would be and when it would release.

Full of energy

The 50-year old elegant Sandhya is chatty, full of energy and sounds like a teen, “I have done 46 films so far but I'm still very star struck, I take my camera along, keep clicking photos and the directors get irritated. I acted in Don in a one minute role just because I'm a huge fan of Nagarjuna. I will show all my photos with stars and my movie DVDs to my grandchildren, they will be happy to have an interesting granny.”

Sandhya Janak has two sons, the elder works in an MNC and the younger one is a bank officer. The actor had never dreamt that she would pursue movies as a career. With a family that has its roots in Pitapuram in East Godavari, Sandhya was raised in Bilaspur.

An advertisement in a newspaper inviting participation entries for documentary films saw her seeking the help of Shekar Kammula on script writing. He offered her a movie instead - thus began her journey in tinsel town.

Comment on her beautiful collection of saris and she quips, “All the ones I wear on screen are mine. Small budget producers don't give them, only recently big banners are giving, otherwise I have an additional responsibility of putting the accessories together. ” Ask her about her good looks and Sandhya gives a plain reply, “I have inherited good genes but I take ample care of what I eat and do exercise, yoga. Not because I want to look good but I don't want to end up with medical problems. Remember I have sons. They are sons till they get a wife. I have written a number of articles on nutrition and health so I apply that to my life.”

Sri Rama Rajyam She is now working in Dammu (with NTR), Ishq (Nitin), a film for Prasad Labs that deals with the life of medical students and a film with Srihari called Sarkar Goonda . The nonchalant actor signs off, “I'm busy for two or three months at a stretch and sometimes for months together I get no offers.”
