Meaningful roles
It is one thing being a glam doll doing wall-fixture roles in myriad films and quite another, getting strong performance oriented roles in select films. Shika finds the latter a better deal for the mind and for the career. Shika plays the mother of a child with cerebral palsy in Vinmeengal . “My character is central to the film. Even after the boy grows up and Anuja Iyer comes into the picture, my character keeps returning in flashbacks,” says Shika. In yet another film, Padam Paar Kadhai Sol , she plays a photographer in a small wayside studio in a rural area. Directed by Benjamin Prakash, Shika has Tarun ( Aanmai Thavarel ) opposite her. “While this film is ready for release, I am now excited about my role as Chandini in Vanayudham , based on forest brigand Veerappan's life,” says Shika.
Three-in-one
Having qualified in various aspects of filmmaking from the Toronto Film School and after making short films, Aravind is set to release his first full length feature film, Kadhal Pisase . “My friend, S. Thangavel, who was an associate of K. S. Ravikumar, approached me with a one line story brief. I was quite impressed by the idea and asked him to develop the story and screenplay. Once this was done, I decided that I will not only produce and direct it but also play the hero as I thoroughly understood the character. It is about a person who takes undue advantage of a girl's true love for him. How this impacts their relationship and his life forms the storyline. Aravind is looking forward to the film that will see him play producer, director and hero. “I have been approached by a couple of directors to play the hero in their films but everything depends on how Kadhal Pisase fares at the box office.”
Thrilling plot
When you train under stalwarts such as Agathiyan, Balasekaran and Prabhu Solomon, the desire to independently direct a movie will always be there. For director Rama Subbaraman it surfaced in the form of Kandupidi Kandupidi (KK). “It is a suspense thriller. In many marriages there are issues that crop-up within the families. I have shown incidences that happen at a marriage function making them suspenseful and thrilling. KK will keep the audiences on tenterhooks while making a social statement on how marriages should be conducted,” ,” says Rama Subbaraman. He has avoided the usual hero-heroine set-up and has made a police inspector (played by director Seeman) the central character.
Dream come true
This beauty queen's celluloid dreams will soon turn into reality when Billa 2 releases, hopefully in May to coincide with hero Ajith Kumar's birthday. Parvathy Omanakuttan is finally in a relaxed mode with most of the work for Billa 2 over . “I want to be part of good cinema, and good work environment. I think that helps in bringing out the best in not just the actors but the entire team. I am glad I experienced that while working in Billa 2 . It is a big film and the presence of Ajith Kumar makes it bigger. What I am happy is that I will be seen in a role that most people do not expect from a beauty queen in her first film. My goal is to make a place in the hearts of the people. And I am very sure I will achieve it with Billa 2 ,” says Parvathy.
