Footloose

Karan had to reduce weight and change his body language to suit his character in director Balu Narayanan's Sooran . “Karan plays a boy from the slums, who leads a carefree life and likes to do what he wants. He has weakness for girls. All this often gets him into trouble, but being a toughie he manages to get out of them,” says Balu. Anu and Shipali Sharma play heroines. “But, there are no romantic scenes and songs. It will be a different film,” he adds.

Darker side of life

Pathinettankudi is a unique story of four youngsters, who work for a pandal contractor. Hero Prithvi (Pandiarajan) heads this group who love to go for marriages and other celebrations, where they indulge in good food and be a part of the revelry. Their joy comes to an abrupt end when they are wrongly accused of kidnapping a girl. The film directed by Sundareswaran also features new face Srinisha.

Excelling as a mother

What does Pokkisham , Vamsam , Ayyana r and Aadu Puli have in common with forthcoming films Pon Maalai Pozhudu and Muppozhudum Un Karpanai — Anupama Kumar, who plays mother. She made her debut in 2004 in a Hindi film, but made a mark as an actor in Tamil cinema. “I am looking forward to Ponmalai Pozhudhu in which I play Aadhav Kannadasan's mother, who finds it difficult to come to terms with the needs and demands of today's youth. I am unable to tackle the generation gap,” says Anupama. In Muppozhudum …, which is produced and directed by Kumar, she has a challenging role as her character travels back and forth showing her as a mother of a five-year-old and a grown-up boy. Muppozhudum Anupama will also be seen in another Kumar production that will be directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon and has Jiiva in the lead.

Valuable lesson

In director Ali Khan's Vazhi Vidu Kanne Vazhi Vidu , Tamizh (of Baana Kaathadi fame), who plays the hero is brought up by his mother single-handedly. She sends him to the city for better prospects. There, he falls in love with a girl (Madhushree) and forgets all about his mother, to the extent that he does not even want to go back to his village to meet her. But, better sense prevails on the girl, who insists that he should meet his mother and get her blessings. She sends him back to the village. There, he is taught a lesson by the villagers, which makes him realise his mistake.

On the fame track

Straddling the highly competitive worlds of motorcycle racing and cinema is a difficult task. But, Dilip Rogger seems to having the best of both. In Udumban , he has an action-oriented role. He plays a thief who uses an ‘udumbu' or a monitor lizard to achieve his means. “I have a lot of ‘kuthu-sandai' sequences in the film. I am always on the run yet find the time to romance Radhika, the heroine of the film,” says Dilip. Nachathra plays a second heroine in Udumban .
