The Arun Vijay-starrer Vaa is getting released shortly and its cinematographer Gopi Jegadeeswaran is quite ecstatic. “While I have shot most of the movie on film, the several chase scenes have been shot digitally using the miniature GoPro to convey the fast-paced nature of the screenplay,” says Gopi. Vaa is his fourth film. “My first film, Yuvan Yuvathi starring Bharath, was also shot entirely on film. In my second, Gautham Karthik’s Ennamo Edho , I employed a combination of film and digital shots. Considering our bright outdoor conditions, sometimes digital cameras don’t give the desired results. Inimey Ippadithan was, however, shot entirely on digital and, thanks to better processing technologies and technicians, we got the best results,” says Gopi whose favourite camera is the Alexa.

Punjabi flavour

Kollywood continues to encourage North Indian talent, with the latest being Punjabi actor Bhanushree Mehra. Earlier seen in the Telugu film Varudu (2011), Bhanushree went back to her home state to do four Punjabi films in a row. “In between, I did a small role in Brother of Bommali (Telugu), starring Allari Naresh. That’s when I landed my first Tamil film, for which I will start shooting from June 29 onwards. Titled Simba , directed by Aravind Sridhar, it is a sort of dark comedy in which Bharath plays the hero. I play the female lead as a news reporter and there is Premgi Amaren in a crucial role,” says Bhanushree.

Anandhi in Bala’s film

After playing supporting roles as Vaibhav’s sister in Damaal Dumeel , Shriya’s friend in Rowthiram and Hansika’s friend in Meagamann , Anandhi was keen on doing a lead role in her next. “But when I was offered a supporting role in director Bala’s Tharai Thappattai , it was something I couldn’t refuse, considering who the director is. I am sure I will not only gain from the experience, but the exposure will also bring me the kind of roles I am looking for. That is almost happening with some interesting scripts coming my way and I will decide on my next after Tharai Thappattai is wrapped up,” says Anandhi who plays an important member of a group of Karagattam dancers in the film.
