Rakul Preet Singh

Rakul Preet Singh is excited about her first Hindi release Yaariyan, after her recent Telugu film Venkatadri Express opened to good reviews and box office collections. The film is slated to release on January 10. “Honestly it hasn’t sunk in yet, but for me it is the same feeling; I’ve worked hard for all languages equally,” she says. The actor reiterates that she will choose stories she believes in and even if Yaariyan is a hit she has no plans to quit doing films in the South. . “It is destiny that got me into the right project. I’m keeping my fingers crossed,” she says. Some of her other films slated for release are Rough with Aadi and Yennamo Yedho with Gautam Karthik that is a Tamil remake of Ala Modalaindi. The actor, who has been busy promoting her films now plans to take some time off to look at other scripts.

A cop, mafia story

Satyam Dvarampudi who made Pellikani Prasad in 2008 is returning with Veediki Dhookudekkuva starring Srikant and Kamna Jethmalani. Why this long gap? “We planned another film that didn’t take off. However, this new film is promising. Srikant plays a cop who takes up any task without hesitation and accomplishes it. Because of the nature of his profession he doesn’t get married. He chances upon Kamna, his former classmate. The story has a mafia angle as well,” says the director who is a fan of filmmakers Balachander and Krishna Vamsi. The rest of the story is about how Srikant saves Kamna within 48 hours when she is held hostage. The film is slated to release in February 2014.

A model move

After her Tamil releases Eesan and Karupampatti in 2013, the pretty Aparna Bajpai signed a Vikram Bhatt production Horror Story, which released this September. Now she is all set to do a cameo, again in Vikram Bhatt’s film starring Bipashu Basu.

Ask her why she veered towards the South, the actor quips, “When I was studying in college, I also did some modelling and was offered Eesan. I wasn’t sure of pursuing a career in films because I was studying and happy with modelling. The Eesan experience made me realise I wanted to be in the movies. Later I started looking towards South Indian cinema. So far the journey has been good; the work culture is professional. I am looking for opportunities. More than quality I look for quality, irrespective of which language.”

Chaitanya wants a challenge

Chaitanya Krishna has been a busy man. He is currently working in Ladies and Gentleman, a film about social media and how it affects people both positively and negatively. The film has him, Adivi Sesh and Mahat Raghavendra in the lead. The actor, who recently appeared in Kalicharan, is upset about the film not living up to his expectations. “I don’t know what went wrong. Maybe the film did not get adequate publicity; I told them I was disappointed. Anyway, I’ve moved on,” he says. The actor will also be seen in Chandama Kathalu, a new age movie directed by Praveen Sattaru, where he plays a school student. “I am looking for exciting roles and not the general formulaic characters,” he says.
