BlaaZe, the rapper with a penchant for controversy is back with a new video provocatively titled ‘Who Is The Idiot’ that marks the singing debut of his kids Mrishti and Mrishal. The catchy rap urges people to vote this election season and not be “the idiot”.
“The idea for the song came out of a line my brother Paul Jacob said while we were looking at all the idiosyncrasies going on and how we as a society were so blind to the facts that we needed to reflect and ask ourselves the simple question, ‘Who is the idiot’?” BlaaZe explains. “But the kids supported this initiative first by being in it,” he smiles.
The idea for the video came from director Varun Gathani and the team at 9XM. “Soumini Sridhara Paul at Artistaloud heard our song and put us in touch with 9XM who got onboard to produce the video. It’s great to see independent music gaining support and it is an absolute delight to see this song come alive, the way it has,” says BlaaZe. The song can be viewed on whoistheidiot.com
Why did he get his kids involved with the political song?
“Well, it all starts at home. The happiness, the peace, the behaviour, the attitude, the questions and the awareness. So, why not teach our kids to be socially and politically aware too through a song... in this case, through a rap song. The real reason for hip-hop is to spread awareness and that led me to asking my own kids to learn the lyrics and sing it aloud, not just to be on a song, but to really be a part of the socially-conscious musical revolution that begins with these kids. Plus when they record for me, it’s a sneak peek for them into the world of studios, microphones, recording and music... where I spend most of my time,” the rapper adds.
