Ponmalai Pozhudhu

What it is about…

AG Creations' Ponmalai Pozhudhu is produced by K. Amirtha Gowri and directed by A. C. Durai. The cinematography is handled by Rajavel Oliveeran, while the editing is done by Ramsudharsan. The creative director is Sanjay Karan and the stuntman is Silva. The dances are choreographed by Brinda, Shobi and Bobby, while the music is scored by Sathya C. The lead is played by Aadhav Kannadasan, grandson of Kaviarasu Kannadasan, with Gayathrie as his lady love. The others in the cast are Kishore, Arul Dass, Anupamma Kumar and Srirenjini. The audio was released by Kamal Haasan and the first CD was received by Vairamuthu.

Music highlights

There are five songs in the album and the best one is ‘Adikkadi' written by Karthik Netha and sung by Hariharan, Sathyan and Priya Hemesh. The song is based on the Nata Bhairavi and Karaharapriya ragas. ‘Masala Chicks', written by Madhan Karki and sung by N. S. Ramya, is a fun song. In ‘Nee Indri,' Karki has written some beautiful lines, and it is sung by the music director himself. ‘Varkodhumai', also by Karki, is sung by Sayanora, Blaaze, Krishna Iyer, Archith and Santhosh Hariharan and it's a wacky weekend song where the word ‘Varkodhumaikal' means ‘beer' in Tamil! ‘Iravugalil', sung by Karthik and Stev Vatz and written by Thamarai, is based on the Sankarabaranam raga and is hummable.

What they say…

Producer K. Amirtha Gowri: I had no intention of making films until one day my son Aadhav said he wanted to act. I realised it was in his blood, like his father and grandfather, and I said ‘why not'. We discussed a lot of scripts but finally it was A. C. Durai's story that clicked. My daughter Dr. K. Sathya Lakshmi and son Aadhav liked it very much. I immediately started production. My late husband Kalaivanan Kannadasan was an upcoming director and actor; perhaps he would have become a producer-actor as well, who knows!

Director A.C. Durai: I wrote the story of Sillunu Oru Kadhal and this is my debut directorial venture. There are lots of love stories but Ponmalai Pozhudhu is sure to catch the eye of the film buff. Youngsters will feel it is their story and older people will feel the same.

Hero Aadhav Kannadasan: It is a dad and son story. If they see the film separately, then one will tell the other to see it as well. All the artistes and technicians in the film are talented and I am the only one who is a starter. I think I will live up to everyone's expectations.

Music director Sathya C.: I learnt Carnatic singing in childhood, as my father was a musician. I have played the keyboard for music directors such as Keeravani and Gangai Amaran. I started with the TV serial ‘Aadugiran Kannan' and ad jingles. My first big break came in the form of ‘Eppadi Mayakkinai' directed by Krishna of Sillunu Oru Kaadhal fame — however the film is yet to hit the screens. After listening to that audio, I was approached by directors A. R. Murugadoss and Saravanan for their venture Engeyum Eppodhum . Now I am happy to do Ponmalai Pozhudhu .
