Oru Kal Oru Kannadi

What it is about…

The audio and the trailer of Red Giant Movies' Oru Kal Oru Kannadi were released with fanfare at a function graced by actor Suriya and Karthi. Directed by Rajesh M and featuring Udhyanidhi Stalin, Hansika, Santhanam, Saranya Ponvannan, Azhakam Perumal, Shayaji Shinde, Mahanathi Sankar, Swaminathan, Lakshmi Narayan, Uma Padmanaban, Madhumitha and Jenny, Oru Kal… is a love story with a generous dose of comedy. Balasubramaniem has handled the camera; Harris Jayaraj has scored the music; Na. Muthukumar has penned the lyrics; and Vivek Harshan has taken care of the editing.

Music Highlights

The album has five songs, all bearing the stamp of Harris Jayaraj. Harris has done what he comes best to him — scoring melodies. ‘Kaadhal Oru,' the first song, is the best. A lovely number, it's sung by Aalaap Raju, Hemachandran and Sunitha Sarathy. ‘Azhage Azhage' is a fine number rendered by Mukesh and Sri Madhumitha. ‘Akila Akila' another nice song sung by Aalaap Raju, Chinmayi and Sharmila. Karthik has rendered ‘Adadda Oru' well. The lyrics in ‘Venam Machan,' a gana number sung by Naresh Iyer and Velmurugam, are sure to make an impact.

What they say…

Producer and hero Udhyanidhi Stalin: When I decided to act in films, I asked director Rajesh to come up with some interesting subjects. When he told me this line, I liked it and asked him to ready the script — that's how Oru Kal Oru Kannadi came about. The film is highly entertaining replete with commercial elements. Acting is challenging, more so is dancing in front of the camera. The decision to act in other movies will depend on the feedback I receive for my performance in Oru Kal ….

Director Rajesh M: After Siva Manasula Sakthi and Boss Engira Bhaskaran, this is my third movie. Once the script was completed, I put Udhyanidhi through a complete rehearsal and we filmed it with a handycam. After watching it, we decided where and how to shoot it. This enabled the actors to emote well in a majority of the scenes. And needless to say, the actual shooting went off well. The film is about friendship and love. Santhanam's comedy is another highlight.

Music director Harris Jayaraj: This is a romantic flick, hence the focus is on melody. Besides, I have tuned a gana number. I have experimented with various singers and tunes. For instance, I made Karthik sing a song with ‘jathis'. Karthik is popular for his solo melody numbers, but I have tried to break the pattern. Instead of calling it a film album, it can be called a music lover's album.
