Upcoming actress Prachi Desai was in the Capital to attend the annual design awards ceremony of the JD Institute of Fashion Technology recently. She will soon be seen as the leading lady in her forthcoming film “Once Upon a Time In Mumbai” produced by Ekta Kapoor, with whose serial “Kasam Se” she shot to fame. Whether it's her bold scenes with Emraan Hashmi or wearing the ‘original' dress that Dimple Kapadia wore in “Bobby”, Prachi has been able to make news with this film.
Excerpts from an interview:
It is said that you are the blue-eyed girl of Ekta Kapoor. Is this also the reason that you play the lead woman in “Once Upon a Time In Mumbai”?
When I started with “Kasam Se”, I was in 12th standard, in Pune. I just happened to give an audition for the serial so obviously I did not know her before, and even through the first year I never met her. It was only later that we got to know each other. She is definitely like a family member now, but that doesn't mean I would be in all her films. She made “LSD” (directed by Dibakar Banerjee) but I was not part of that film. I am a part of “Once upon a Time in Mumbai” because they wanted a girl who hasn't been seen in many films and hence has no ‘image' baggage.
How was the experience of sharing screen space with National Award winning actors Ajay Devgn and Kangana Ranaut?
Kangana was an inspiration to me as she works very hard.I have grown up watching Ajay's films. so I was very excited. But I just got a few scenes to do with him. He is always on his own. He is a man of few words and doesn't interact freely with everyone. But I could see that that he is very naughty as well as mysterious.
How about did you feel to work with Emraan Hashmi? There has been some controversy on your intimate scenes with him.
Emraan has been wrongly projected by the media because of his intimate scenes in many films. With me too, there is no such (kissing) scene about which adversely reports have come out. He is also projected as an aggressive person which he is not. He is very cool and makes his co-star very comfortable to work with. People should start acknowledging him as an actor now. As far as this film is concerned, he has got the best songs to act in.
Name your favourite actor, director, movies and next film?
Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Imtiaz Ali in that order. “Dil Chahta Hai” and “Jab We Met” are my favourite films.
What is your next film? Would you like to come back to in television serials now?
“Joker” with Rajeev Khandelwal directed by debutant Vikram Tulli is my next film.
No, I would not like to appear on TV as an actor in any serial or as a contestant in a reality show, as I have been there, done that. I would like to appear as a judge in reality shows though.
