Colin Firth holds awards for best actor and ensemble for " The King's Speech" at the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles.

The Kings Speech cemented its place as the hot Oscar favourite on Sunday when it won two of the Screen Actors Guild awards.

The royal drama starring Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush won the actors’ organisation’s prize for best cast performance in a motion picture. The film also garnered the lead actor’s award for Firth.

Another Oscar front-runner, The Fighter, won two awards for supporting actors Christian Bale and Melissa Leo. Natalie Portman was named best actress for her performance in Black Swan.

The SAG awards are often seen as a reliable indicator of the Oscars since there is a large overlap between voters of the two organizations. The King’s Speech is the leading Oscar contender with 12 nominations and has already been named best picture by the two other leading Hollywood guilds, the Producers Guild and the Directors Guild.
