Actor Naseeruddin Shah and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap will vie for top honours at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) this year with four of Indian films being nominated in different categories.

‘Dev-D’, ‘A Wednesday’, ‘Tahaan’ and ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’ will compete with entries from Australia, Iran, Israel, Japan, and China among other countries.

Malini Fonseka has been nominated in the Best Actress Category for her role as the overbearing matriarch in Sri Lankan-India co-production ‘Akasa Kusum’ (Flowers of the Sky).

The awards will be announced on November 26 at the third annual APSA ceremony on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Kashyap has been nominated for Achievement in Direction for ‘Dev-D’, a modern take on Sharat Chandra’s classic ’Devdas’ about unrequited love.

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has been nominated in the Best Performance by actor for his role of ‘the common man’ in ’A Wednesday’

‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’, which depicts the city as it tries to come to terms with the loss of life and property after July 2006 serial blasts, has been nominated for Best Screen play by Yogesh Vinayak Joshi and Upendra Sidhaye.

Santosh Sivan’s film ‘Tahaan’, about a Kashmiri child’s journey in search of his beloved donkey, will vie for an award in the Best Children Film category.

“Nominees were determined from a record number of 212 entries from 43 countries,” APSA Chairman Des Power said while announcing the nominations.

The awards are collaboration between CNN International, UNESCO and International Federation of Film Producers Associations.
