How it happened
I passed out of the Chennai film institute, where I did a course in direction, with a gold medal. My film Ottam won two State awards — for editing and direction. After that I worked as an associate of director Priya V.
Meanwhile, I approached producers with a storyline. When I met Jayendra of Real Image, he expressed his desire to produce a film using the Red camera and the line I narrated impressed him. That’s how I got to make my maiden film Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru, a Real Image and Sathyam Cinema co-production.
How it felt
I was nervous and delighted at the same time. The film evoked a positive response when it was screened for an invited audience. When I saw my name on the screen for the first time, I was overjoyed.
How life changed
Life has not changed much except that people around me treat me like a celebrity. I feel I am the same person with the same passion for good cinema. I am now working on my next project which will be on the floors next year. It’s my wish to do a film on a wider canvas without any budgetary restriction. More than appreciation, I welcome healthy criticism.
