You made your acting debut withYogi. Now, which do you prefer — acting or penning lyrics?
I'm a lyricist first. I've written the songs for all of Ameer's films — Mounam Pesiyathe, Ram, Paruthiveeran and now Yogi . It was at his instance that I agreed to act in Yogi . Initially, I was a bit sceptical about it. If I have performed the role well, the credit should go to director Subramania Siva and producer Ameer.
You not only acted but also sang the lyrics you had penned...
I'm really happy about it. This is the first time a young lyricist has been able to do all this. Now I'm glad people have accepted me as an actor.
What was it like playing a role with grey shades?
It felt sad. For, what I won't do in real life I did in the film like drinking alcohol and talking crudely. My friends too felt the same way. But I told them it was just a film.
What is your next film as actor?
I am going to play the hero of Kathaiyin Nayagan , directed by Premnath. But that doesn't divert me from my main work which is to write more songs. So far I have penned 1,400 songs, and I'm now writing for nearly 10 films.
Who is your favourite lyricist?
I like every one of them. But my all-time favourite is none other than Pattukottai Kalyanasundaram. He wrote all types of songs, including those for workers and peasants.
