Grill Mill: Meera Krishnan

Actor Meera Krishnan.

If the small screen did not exist, what would you have done?

I know why you are asking me this question. I started my career as an announcer on Doordarshan (DD). Then I read the news on DD and Sun TV. Had the small screen not been there, I would have become a singer. Basically, I am a singer and my guru is Vaigal Gnanaskanthan. I am a post-graduate in music from the Madras University. Besides, I am a veena player and have played for several music directors.

When did you take to acting?

It was Sunder K. Vijayan who asked me to act in a short film. Later Priya Vision Radhu offered me a lead role opposite Jaishankar in Kuppathu Sastrigal. Both happened by accident. Then I started acting in television serials. I have done nearly 50 films and 20 serials.

But you are not to be seen on the small screen these days?

I was having problems with dates. Besides, my daughter Akshaya, who is in Class 12, and son Adithya, who is in Class 7, need me. However, I am ready to do big or small screen roles, provided the characters are challenging.

Have you achieved your aim?

I do not have any special aim. Whatever happens is for the good. I don't seek anything; I try to do whatever comes my way sincerely.
